Greetings from SGU Spring, 2011
After the earthquake in March, or rather the nuclear plant accident in Fukushima, the number of people coming from abroad to Japan is decreasing.. Indeed, those incidents caused trouble to logistics and transportation at first, and there still are many refugees. Also, the residents near the nuclear plants are forced to live inconveniently in many ways.
The news like this spread all over the world and, sadly, before anyone knows, many people started to think that Japan is dangerous everywhere. In fact, some students unwillingly canceled or postponed their study at SGU.
But I want everyone to know that Hokkaido, specifically Ebetsu where SGU is located, is perfectly safe. Flowers are blooming, leaves growing thick on trees and we are enjoying the bright spring just as usual.
Also, the exchange students who came under this situation are all doing great. They are adjusting to the life in Japan, study getting on the right track, and we can hear their happy voices and laughters from our International Lounge when they have no class and are spending time with their Japanese friends. Isn't their smile ithe proof of the safeness in Hokkaido most of all?
To those who are hesitating for their future studies at SGU or participation in Japanese Language and Culture in July because of the worries for the nuclear accident, please believe their happy faces and join us without any worries. There must be some things that you can experience "right now", so please don't miss your good opportunities.
All the teaching staff, office staff members and the students are very much looking forward to seeing the people from all over the world here at Sapporo Gakuin University.
