At Sapporo Gakuin University, our educational goal is to foster individuals with rich human qualities and individuality who can shape their own careers and lives while contributing to society. The educational philosophy we prioritize in achieving this goal includes: Autonomy, which nurtures students' initiative and problem-solving skills; Human Rights, which values the diverse characteristics of each student; Coexistence, which involves taking responsibility for the local community in partnership with various citizens and organizations; and Collaboration, which promotes working together with faculty, staff, students, and community members to achieve educational goals.
In 2020, we introduced a new tagline to express the educational vision of Sapporo Gakuin University: "One life, Many answers." This tagline conveys the message that the future holds countless possibilities, and there are many answers to be found through repeated challenges. It also represents the excitement of students as they embark on a future full of potential, as well as the faculty's commitment to drawing out each student’s abilities and helping them find their own answers, without fitting them into a fixed mold.
Sapporo Gakuin University offers unique educational value through "Active Learning", where students take an active role in their studies in both in-person and remote classes, based on a broad and deep learning approach. The university also incorporates "Action Learning", a cycle of hypothesis, action, and verification, and "Open Education", which involves collaboration and support from various citizens, organizations, and educational institutions such as high schools, universities, technical colleges, and vocational schools, providing learning opportunities both inside and outside the university.
Based on these principles and educational objectives, Sapporo Gakuin University not only provides education on the Ebetsu Campus, with its more than fifty years of history, but also offers practical, problem-solving education with students at the center on the newly established Shin Sapporo Campus in 2021, as well as in various locations throughout Hokkaido, Honshu, and overseas. We actively practice new educational and research initiatives, continue to foster people and solve social problems through social innovation, and contribute to the realization of the SDGs.
